A terror attack in the UK is highly likely within the next six months.

The Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC) raised the UK National Threat Level from SUBSTANTIAL, meaning an attack is likely, to SEVERE, highly likely.

Severe is the second-highest threat level available to authorities.

The top level is CRICTICAL, which means an attack is highly likely in the near future.

It comes after the recent attacks in London, but MI5 is warning of dangers ‘across various ideologies’, not just Islamism

The dangers posed by extreme right-wing terrorists are also thought to be on the radar.

Threats are assessed by MI5’s Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre, which is independent of the government and not influenced by politics.

MI5 said: “Whilst Islamist terrorism remains the primary threat to the UK, extreme right-wing terrorism has been on a steadily rising trajectory.”

Sir Ken McCallum, head of MI5, has said the threat from the right wing “just keeps growing” and is spreading “poisonous” ideologies to a growing audience.
