News Bits

  • Iran threatens the UK
Iran has threatened military bases in the UK. In response, the UK government came out and said it "stands ready 24/7 to defend itself." Iran stated that UK bases used by the US were considered "legitimate targets" and that Britain was an accomplice in the US war.
  • UK shocked as Russian warship fires live rounds in English Channel
A Russian warship has carried out a live-firing exercise just miles off Plymouth. The actions of the Russian frigate Neustrashimy shocked authorities in the UK and France. Neustrashimy was being tracked at the time by Royal Navy Offshore Patrol Vessel HMS Tyne and a French military aircraft. The timing was said by some to coincide with the appointment of UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, as Sir Keir Starmer stepped down.
  • UK MPs worry as Anne Widdecombe murder shocks all
UK parliamentary figures are concerned about their safety as the death of former Conservative MP Anne Widdecombe has shocked those in the public eye. Anne Widdecombe’s death is being investigated by counter-terrorism police who said she was killed in a “targeted attack.” Outgoing UK prime minister Sir Keir Starmer said he was “truly horrified” by her death.
  • France shuts down nuclear power stations
French state power company EDF (Électricité de France) has shut down the Golfech 2, Bugey 3 and Chooz 2 reactors due to the heatwave. Seven additional reactors ran at reduced power. EDF said nuclear safety was not at risk and the long‑run generation impact remains small historically. Output was cut by a record 9.2 GW.
  • Russia gets blame for grid attack
Officials from the UK and Europe have pointed the finger at Russia for an attempted cyberattack on the Polish electricity grid system back in the winter of 2025. The attack is being blamed on Russia’s FSB Centre 16 and had it been successful, it would have cut power to over half a million people.
  • In June, the UK nearly suffered a total power blackout.
The UK almost suffered the same fate as Spain last year. Yet the story did not make the news. Whistleblowers said the UK was near crisis point. This happens when the grid falls outside safe operating limits and has to use all possible supplies of power to meet demand. If any of those had failed it would have triggered an automatic system shutdown, causing power cuts across the country. A cover-up, or just a simple reluctance to admit what happened?
