Russian navy cruises the English Channel
The Russian navy has taken up semi-permanent residence in the English Channel.
The Russian frigate RFS Neustrashimy has replaced another common visitor, the Admiral Grigorovich.
RFS Neustrashimy has been busy, conducting a logistics transfer near the Galloper Wind Farm on August 1 and deploying a Ka-27 helicopter on August 3 for enhanced lane surveillance.
This is a posture that complicates Royal Navy monitoring and signals a shift toward the Channel and North Sea.
Russia had also expanded its Northern Fleet presence, including the July 28 launch of Yasen-M submarine Ulyanovsk.
This heightens pressure across the GIUK gap, threatening Norway, Sweden and Finland.
The UK is a key partner for enhanced High North surveillance.
Hybrid warfare inside Europe
On August 5, an explosive-laden drone was found at Leipzig/Halle Airport, a major NATO logistics hub.
The police defused it, but a DHL cargo aircraft also reported a mid-air collision with an unknown object.
German officials framed it as a “professional hybrid threat scenario,” with Ukrainian and Western sources pointing to Russian involvement.
Analysis ties the Leipzig incident to an escalating pattern of small‑drone sabotage across Europe, with rising frequency and lethality.
Microsoft warns

Ukraine attacts
Russia launched a large missile and drone strike on Kyiv on the night of August 4–5, destroying critical infrastructure and causing civilian casualties.
Ukraine reported no missile interceptions.
Following the strikes, NATO confirmed coordination to urgently deliver additional air-defense systems to Ukraine.
Estonia said it will redirect €500 million from armored vehicles to unmanned systems, publish an Unmanned Vehicles Roadmap, empower peacetime counter-drone actions, deploy new border surveillance and co-develop drones with Ukraine.
This they consider a proactive response to hybrid threats.
